Hong Kong One Day Tours and Activities

Hong Kong is one of the easiest places in the world to get around on your own. Public transportation is efficient and cheap, do you really need a tour? Only in a handful of instances I would actually recommend taking a tour or booking in advance:

Hong Kong Highlights

If you are short on time and would like to cover as much ground as possible, then I highly recommend the Hong Kong Island Half Day Tour, it takes you to the highlights: Victoria Peak for sweeping views of the Harbour, Aberdeen Fishing Village, for a snapshot of traditional life, Stanley Market in the Southern end of the Island, where you can haggle, do some souvenir shopping, or enjoy the waterfront, to name a few. It would be difficult to accomplish all that on your own on a short period of time. Here are more details:

Booking activities in advance is also a good idea, specially during peak times when they might sell-out. No need to spend time making reservations, checking schedules or getting tickets when you get there. Our favorite activities in Hong Kong are the Harbour Cruises, there is nothing like seeing the towering skyline from the water specially at night. Here are some options for you to consider:

Day Tours and Excursions from Hong Kong

If you have more time and want to explore the surroundings and beyond, these three top our list:

  • Day Trip to Lantau Island: This brings you to the best spots in Lantau, the majestic Big Buddha on top of the hill, the colorful Po Lin Monastery, and the lively fishing village of Tai O, and on the way back, the Ngong Ping cable car ride with fantastic views of the surrounding islands and as far as the South China Sea.
  • Day Trip to Guangzhou China: If you want a peek into the Mainland, an organized tour from Hong Kong is your best bet since it saves you the money (which can be hefty) and hassle of obtaining a China Visa. Kids will love seeing the Pandas and the visits to the markets, you will ride a catamaran up the Pearl River and then the train back to Hong Kong. Lunch and transport to/from your hotel are included.
  • Day Trip to Macau: Although better known for its casinos and perhaps not as many would think as child-friendly, we had a great time at this former Portuguese enclave with its beautiful colonial architecture intermeshed with Chinese temples and ultra-modern structures, and wait until you try the food! Worth the trip in itself!

Hong Kong Airport Transfers

And getting in and out of Hong Kong International Airport is a breeze, airport shuttle pickups start at US$24, somebody will be waiting at the airport and whisk you to your hotel, what could be easier?
